🦅 Blackhawk families were all smiles as they walked the halls of Weaverville Elementary School for Meet the Teacher on Friday.

The kids scoped out their desks and received goodie bags from their new teachers while families learned about curriculum, bus routes and car rider routines, and last-minute tips for a successful year.

“A lot of the teachers also do like little write-ups about themselves,” said administrative intern Whitley Burleson. “So the kids feel like they know their teacher before they even start. And they also often do letters for parents to reassure them that your child's in safe hands.”

The turnout was fantastic, she added, with a constant stream of families visiting the school throughout the event.

“It's a really small community, so when we have events here, people show up,” Burleson said. “It's nice to be able to get names to faces before the first day. And it helps to ease some of that anxiety the kids might feel, especially for our students that are switching from the primary, leaving the first grade coming for second grade.”
