Moran, Maureen - STEM Lab Manager

The STEM lab is awesome!  As a Leader in Me school our students are taught the 7 Habits of Highly Successful Kids.  Our students are living these habits in STEM by learning and following the Engineering process.  They are proactive by listening to the challenges and asking appropriate questions for clarity and understanding.  They seek first to understand then be understood by listening to each other as teammates and brainstorming ideas.  They begin with the end in mind and put first things first by creating plans for the challenges all while thinking win-win!  By using each other’s ideas to collaborate and create one plan they are synergizing in STEM more than they ever would have in the old computer lab.  And, once the challenge is complete each team presents their projects and celebrates their successes (and failures) by explaining lessons learned during the process.  Students congratulate each other by offering compliments on individual elements even when the final project may not meet criteria.  The discussion process during presentations is fun to watch.  That is true teamwork and collaboration.  This is the most fun I have had at work in years.
